Koh Lanta, a pristine island in Thailand’s Krabi province, is the location of Pimalai Resort & Spa. Built within the rainforest, this unique 5 star beach resort is designed to complement and conserve the environment. A sedate hideaway for simply lazing in the sun surrounded by immeasurable beauty, this is truly the best place to discover nature and yourself.

Serenity and a Breathtaking Getaway

The name Pimalai is derived from two ancient Sanskrit words - “Pimalai” & “Alai” - and means “A Heavenly Place/ A Little Place in Heaven”. This is a reflection of the stunning natural beauty and tranquility that are found both within the Resort and its surroundings.
It is located approximately 2hrs to 2hrs30mns (depending on season) from Krabi International Airport and is reached by the resort’s private minibus and cruising boat.

Opened in November 2001, from the first stages of the property development, Pimalai has been committed to preserve the natural environment. It is tastefully set amidst a lush and tranquil rainforest, allowing guests to be as close as possible to nature and to witness a rich variety of plants, trees, birds and small wild animals. This beach resort combines all the essential ingredients - subtle five star comforts, natural beauty, far from the crowds, with no noise except the sound of the waves sliding in and out and slowly breaking onto the sand.

The accommodation, which is of restful low-density and of a southern Thai style design, is nestled in magnificent lush tropical forest, overlooking Kantieng bay, arguably the best bay on the island. The exquisite Pool villas which are located on the hillside, some 60 metres above sea level provide breathtaking views of the majestic Andaman sea and the surrounding lush tropical vegetation.

Crafting Eco-sensitive Tourism

Beyond ensuring Pimalai guests enjoy the feeling of a resort tucked away in a tropical hideaway, the forest also has the vital role of preventing landslides during the monsoon season when massive amounts of water flow down the mountains. No cutting of trees was allowed during construction and that rule remains today.

However, the roots of Pimilai's commitment to the island and the community run much deeper. The resort is equipped with its own state-of-the-art water-treatment system. Two reservoirs store rainwater to avoid depleting groundwater aquifers that play a vital role as the primary water source for many in the community. A full-scale recycling operation is now underway as is a nursery to help support the native landscaping.

The cottages are extremely spacious and decorated with local materials such as bamboo, rattan, cotton and silk and all are equipped with a large king size bed, a large living area with sofa and arm chair, a bathroom and a large terrace. All the cottages are individually equipped to provide sufficient energy for electric fan and lighting.

Pimalai is racking-up awards both domestically and internationally for its commitment to environmental stewardship. All employees are trained in an extensive recycling program to separate dry from wet garbage, glass, cardboard, paper and plastic. They also work closely with the local villagers and authorities to minimize the negative effects of the impact of tourism. They even work with local schools to teach local children the concept of nature conservation.
